Insurgentes is amazing! So far my favourite SW solo album. There are some amazing songs on Grace for Drowning but did feel longer than it needed to be. Also Raven and Hand Cannot Erase! Love! I enjoy all his solo but I have never listen to The Future Bites. I don't know why, I just didn't get it. Was so lucky to hear the new album at a preview in spatial audio in the dark and it sounded amazing. For me the title track The Harmony Codex is a standout! Stunning!! I love his falsetto no? I understand the reflecting on age but is he really struggling with age and angst? He seems pretty creatively engaged to me?I think I would rate this new album better than or To The Bone.

My favorite Ayreon album still, which puts it high on my all time favorites from anyone.

It's hard to believe it's over 20 years old...seems like yesterday I bought it as it was coming out. Will still pull it up....not my favorite, but still excellent...

Edge of the Century was without Tommy Shaw. This was Glenn Burtnick album. This is why 15 doesn't sound like 16... And if your critical of their first album... dude.. that was recorded in either the late 60's or very early 70's... You have to take this into consideration ( cannot compare to albums that were released in the 2000's

All words and little music in a MUSIC REVIEW is boring AF! I doubt you'd be prevented from using samples. So why do a music review with no music? It's like describing an avant garde painting with a blank screen. Yaaaaaawwwnnn....

I'm also one of the many, MANY prog channels who got it and I also quite enjoyed it. I would add to the influences (very) early Marillion (Grendel-era), which leads to one of my minor peeves: there is a lot of influences and they don't always mix that smoothly. Still, I agree that, for a first effort, it's pretty good.

Just listened to it, its ok. Sadly i think this band is going to be a shadow of its former self without David Longdon. Still going to see them live though and will love it im sure

Out Of Season is also a lovely album. Gibbons' collaborator, Rustin Man (Paul Webb) is a former member of Talk Talk, whose sparse yet intricate, atmospheric and sometimes discordant approach certainly influenced Portishead.

And they didn't need to turn every musical idea into a full song, Alien Afternoon intro is so cool, just leave the soundscape as Radiohead was doing

I relistened, critically; it's not a bad album it does miss Phils arrangement sense and the way he could take a lyric and imbue the sometimes wordy Banks lyrics and make it work, clearly Wilson had no input on what he was singing which makes it pro forma, for example the mid section of Mad Man Moon would be a mess if Phil didn't work out the vocal arrangement, Calling All Stations, song, is a good piece and with the right singer would work melodically as well as it does harmonically. Shipwrecked is a well crafted song, but needs Phils angst in his voice to bring it home but thanks to Phils wandering dick and need to bang the babysitter, he quit so he didn't have to face the first wives club

Not everyone has the patience for 80 minutes of music. Since I grew up in the 90’s back then most albums had an hour run time. Great review.

Anyone else catch how they changed the snare tone multiple times within a song? That was really cool

MASSIVE production difference on this one. And when you look up the credits it makes since why this one is fantastic.

Lateralus and 10,000 Days were great albums. Besides the drumming Fear Inoculum was very underwhelming. And that breaks my heart to say that 😒

Nice list. I would have to go back and listen to them, but The Void would be higher on my list. In fact, I need to go listen to Beardfish again. I remember getting up early in the morning and listening to one of the Sleeping In Traffic albums, boiling water to homebrew beer.

The end of willow farm at:... and all of us fall in our places: then you get those 5 notes again but this time it progresses "down, down, down, down, down into an interplay between Banks and Hackett, the moment you described as 'the song kind of collapses under the weight that just happened', and then build back up in apocalypse. It is a "heavy" moment in this "heaviest" of songs and I have herd many versions but there is one , Chicago Auditorium 1977 were that interplay between Banks and Hackett was, with only a couple more notes from Hackett was so perfect that I tagged it as the heaviest moment in rock.

What do you think of the newest one, where would you place it? "As it is Ever Was..... " Personally i have found it to be a VERY strong album, i have been listening to it constantly (front to back each time, no skipping) its starting to move up in the ranking for me honestly - its easily the best since The King is Dead for sure

Love this album (first one I've heard from this band)! Sorry it didn't quite hit with you, but I think it is Superb Symphonic Prog. Great balance between the classical influences and more rockin' aspects, as well as deft handling of all the other myriad influences for a truly wonderful listening adventure. Especially appreciate the way they interwove the more eclectic proggy elements (such as odd beats and time signatures, extended instrumental passages, etc) with more mainstream melodic rock and vocal harmonies. It certainly does harken back to the glory days of mid-70's prog, although they also add many more modern touches as well. Overall, a really fantastic album, certainly one of the very best of the year (top 5), and anyone who enjoys classic symphonic prog should be thrilled with this album. I guess I need to check out Skyline next, but love everything about this one.
